Thousands of university students and teachers hit the streets in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, to protest against President Jair Bolsonaro's government planned cuts to federal universities.
Protesters paraded with banners and signs critical of the Brasilian leader.
The nationwide strike took place in 17 of the 27 Brasil's states, including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Belo Horizonte, amid heavy... Еще security in place.
Earlier in May, Brazilian far-right's government announced a 30 percent cut to the funding of federal universities.
The decision was strongly criticised by many top education officers, who claimed that it would put at risk public university and therefore access to higher education for young people.
The government is also planning to withdraw financial support from the human sciences and prioritise areas such as veterinary, engineering and medicine, which, in Bolsonaro's words, can generate immediate return to the taxpayers.
