Brazil: Sao Paulo takes to the streets over transport fare hikes

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Sao Paulo on Thursday to protest against the latest fare hikes on public transportation. Protesters marched down the streets with anti-government signs and banners, while chanting slogans against the tariff hikes. Tensions grew between the police force and protesters as the evening progressed. Ana Silva, a protester, expressed her frustration... Еще over the fact that Mayor Joao Doria did not keep his promise regarding transportation fares, «he reduced student discounts and now announced a raise of 20 cents leaving the price at four reals (US$1.24).» Five days ago the city of Sao Paulo increased fares on public bus, metro and train from 3.80 reals (US$1.17).
