Brazil: Sao Paulo rises against 'gay conversion therapy' ban overturn

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of central Sao Paulo, Friday, to decry a Brazilian judge's decision to overturn the nearly 20-year-long ban on «gay conversion therapy.» The streets of the metropolis were swarmed with LGBTI demonstrators wrapped in Rainbow flags, carrying placards reading «"capitalism is sick». Last week, a federal judge in the capital of Brasilia Waldemar de Carvalho overruled a decision taken by the Federal Council of Psychology in 1999 that prohibited licensed psychologists to offer therapeutic treatments able to «convert» patients identifying as LGBTI, a move which has ignited a fierce wave of protests. More protests are expected to take place on Sunday.
