Brazil: Sao Paulo health workers rally on International Nurses Day amid COVID crisis

Health professionals from the Hospital da Universidade in Sao Paulo held a demonstration in front of their place of work on Tuesday to mark International Nurses Day and protest their working conditions amid the coronavirus pandemic. The demonstration featured doctors and nurses holding balloons and crosses to symbolise both patients and health workers who had lost their lives during the crisis... Еще. «This protest was thought up as a tribute on this nurses day, to all the health workers who lost their lives fighting COVID-19 and a tribute to those fighting right now at the university hospital with all the difficulties that we are facing. There is a lack of equipment and many risks for the workers over the age of 60, also a lack of tests for workers,» explained local nurse Rosane. International Nurses Day is observed worldwide on May 12 and is also the birthday of Florence Nightingale. It is celebrated yearly to mark the contributions that nurses make to society worldwide. Brazil has recorded over 173,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began and more than 12,000 fatalities related to the virus thus far.
