Brazil: Sao Paulo ‘Enough Day’ protesters demand Lula’s freedom

Hundreds gathered in front of the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (FIESP) building in Brazil's capital on Friday to protest rising prices and demand freedom for jailed former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Basta Day. Basta Day, literally 'Enough Day' in Portuguese saw union members gather in front of FIESP building on Paulista Avenue, chanting and carrying banners... Еще urging jailed Lula to run for 2018 presidential elections despite him serving 12 years in prison for charges of corruption and money-laundering. «Enough with unemployment, enough with reform, enough with change in social security that harms the majority of the population, enough with authoritarianism that diminishes democracy,» said Joao Carlos Goncalves, Secretary General of Forca Sindical trade union centre. «We want Lula free, we also want a better country for workers, with rights, rights to education, right to health, right to housing,» added Secretary for Women's Affairs in Apeoesp teachers' union, Suely Fatima de Oliveira. The first stage of presidential elections debate kick-started on Thursday with Lula being the biggest absentee.
