Brazil: Rio's largest cemetery expands capacity to receive coronavirus victims

The Sao Francisco Xavier cemetery in northern Rio de Janeiro has been making preparations to receive and bury bodies in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, footage filmed on Wednesday shows. Workers were seen digging fresh graves in the cemetery, where crosses for headstones and the construction of several Loculi. According to reports, the cemetery is expanding capacity to house an additional 12,000 corpses, and the crematorium will also be expanded in order to be able to complete 60 ceremonies a day, up from the original capacity of five. According to the latest data collating by Johns Hopkins University, Brazil has 46,182 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 2,924 deaths.
