Brazil: Niteroi beaches open up for sports amid COVID-19 restrictions

The Brazilian city of Niteroi opened up its beaches for physical activities for the first time since the implementation of COVID-19 restrictions, as seen in footage from Wednesday. People could be seen playing volleyball, jogging and partaking in various exercises in the city's Icarai beach, all the while wearing masks and observing social distancing rules. «Everyone needs to use masks and alcohol gel — this is compulsory — and keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) so that they don't have a lot of up-close contact,» said Niteroi resident Priscila Dias. Brazil has been one of the nations worst hit by the coronavirus outbreak in the world, with confirmed cases approaching 2.5 million, and 90.188 people having died with the disease according to Johns Hopkins University.
