Protesters took to the streets of Sao Paulo on Wednesday to protest the government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro amid allegations linking the president's family to the murder of human rights activist and politician Marielle Franco.
«People are tired, last week we saw two more absurd things happening, the Bolsonaro family linked to Marielle's assassination, and the president trying to... Еще obstruct justice, also his son Eduardo suggesting a return to dictatorship, a coup on our democracy, he has to be punished, we say stop to the Bolsonaros,» Thiago Montalban, one of the protesters, said.
Franco, a Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman and activist who campaigned against police brutality and the emergence of urban militias, was killed in March 2018.
According to reports by TV Globo, the suspected killers met at Bolsonaro's compound in Rio de Janeiro just hours before the killing. The outlet also reported that one of the suspects gained access to the compound by telling a doorman he was visiting Bolsonaro.
The president denied the allegations, accusing TV Globo of betraying Brazil.
Two former police officers Ronnie Lessa and Elcio de Queiroz were arrested in connection with the murder nearly a year later. Their lawyers deny the murder accusations.
