Hundreds of Brazilians took part in a rally in Brasilia this Sunday to show their support for President Jair Bolsonaro's government after political tensions began heating up again during the country's worsening coronavirus pandemic.
Bolsonaro himself showed up to the demonstration wearing no mask, as the president has been outwardly critical towards lockdown measures imposed by governors throughout the country and has repeatedly downplayed the risks of COVID-19 despite his country posting the second most coronavirus infections globally.
«I'm here in Brasilia, on May 24 2020, and we are here fighting for the future of our children. Because we do not accept living in a country where communism is being implemented, a dictatorship is being implemented,» said one demonstrator.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Brazil has registered 363,211 cases of the coronavirus and 22,666 deaths related to it.
