Drone footage of mass graves dug at the Parque de Manaus cemetery to host the bodies of coronavirus victims emerged on Thursday, as the capital of the Amazonas state in Brazil is grappling with an increasing numbers of deaths.
Relatives could be seen outside the cemetery, where access is now restricted and only five family members can gather to bury their loved ones while maintaining a safe distance, on orders of local authorities.
«This is a joke, we can't even bury our relatives properly. I'm so outraged with all this,» said a resident who lost his mother to COVID-19.
In the past weeks, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who dismissed the disease as a 'normal flu,' clashed with state governors on the lockdown measures imposed across the country.
According to the latest data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Brazil has 50,036 confirmed cases and 3,331 related deaths as of Friday.
