Brazil: Brazil and Paraguay leaders break ground on 30-year old border bridge plan

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez met in Foz do Iguacu, on the border with Paraguay, on Friday, to launch the construction of a bridge planned 30 years ago as a joint project between the two countries. The country's leaders have been discussing building a second bridge between the two countries on the Parana River for over 30 years — the only bridge... Еще currently connecting Brazil and Paraguay is the Friendship Bridge, which opened in 1965. «I was privileged to experience, when I was a boy, the inauguration of the Itaipu dam, which is why this historic moment is doubly emotional for me, after years and years of lack of investment in the agreements between Paraguay and Brazil,» said Abdo Benitez. Construction of the new bridge is expected to take 36 months.
