Groups of supporters and opponents of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro both took to the streets of Brasilia to demonstrate on Sunday.
Footage shows supporters of the Brazilian president rallying with pro-Bolsonaro banners and Brazilian flags, with mounted police deployed to the demonstration. Opponents of Bolsonaro carried posters with anti-racist slogans and displayed a giant flag characterizing the Brazilian president as Hitler. The opposition demonstration was called for by several political parties, social movements, and soccer club fan organisations.
«We are here in the streets because we need to defeat and end this government. First, he was elected with fraud using false news. Second, in a year and a half of [his] government, it has committed numerous crimes against the population. The biggest crime has been to feed and encourage the spread of COVID-19, Brazil today has more than 50,000 dead,» said one of the opposition protesters.
As of this Sunday, Brazil has 1,066,333 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 49,976 deaths related to the disease, according to data compiled by John Hopkins University.
