Bolshoi put their best foot forward in Beijing

The world-renowned Bolshoi ballet gave Chinese audiences a taste of what they can expect from their upcoming performance of Le Corsaire and The Flames of Paris, at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday. From May 18th to 25th, the Bolshoi's star-studded line-up will perform two full-length ballets at the Opera House in the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA). Le Corsaire, running... Еще from May 18th to 20th, is based loosely on Byron's poem of the same name. Famed for its rich plot-lines and long duration, a revised version of the three-act ballet exceeds two and a half hours. In one section, more than 60 performers partake in a dance lasting over 20 minutes. Such a large ensemble is quite rare in ballet. The Flames of Paris will be performed between May 22nd and 25th. Taking its inspiration from French Revolutionary songs, the four-act ballet made its debut at the Leningrad Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre in 1932. It is now considered one of the greatest achievements in Soviet Union era theatre.
