Residents of the Bolivian city of Cochabamba blocked a street on Saturday with a wheelbarrow containing the coffin of a person suspected of dying with COVID-19.
«We had to take it out this morning to expose [the problem],» said Remberto Arnez, who urged the city government to take care of the body and bury it.
The person had allegedly been dead for seven days, posing a great risk to the neighbours. «We are going to leave it here, let it [the virus] spread to everyone, to all the people. We have no other choice. The relatives are sick at home, they [the authorities] haven't come to test them,» added Arnez.
People in protective suits could be seen arriving to take the body away. The daughter of the victim could also be seen lamenting her regret that her father did not receive any assistance.
To date, Bolivia has recorded 38,071 cases of COVID-19 and 1,378 linked deaths, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
