Berlin gallery exhibits works and explores Nazi ties of Expressionist Emil Nolde

The Berlin National Gallery is hosting the exhibition 'Emil Nolde — A German legend. The artist during National-Socialism', delving into the artistic and the political sides of the famous German painter, as shown on footage from Thursday in Berlin. Even though Nolde (1867–1956) was a member of the Nazi party, he was officially denounced by the Nazi regime as his work was deemed ‘degenerate... Еще’. Christian Ring, one of the curators of the exhibition, explained that the display is also aimed at exploring Nolde’s relationship with the 2nd World War. “The thing that has always been missing was a critical analysis of Nolde during the 2nd World War — how did he act, what was his attitude before and of course after the 2nd World War,” Ring said. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reportedly provided two paintings of Nolde from the Government's possession for this exhibition. The exhibition will take place from 12.04.2019 to 15.09.2019.
