Belgium: Von der Leyen says first COVID vaccine permits could arrive by the end of December

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the conditional marketing authorisations for the BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna anti-coronavirus vaccines could arrive in the second half of December during a press conference in Brussels, on Thursday. Speaking alongside European Council President Charles Michel, Von der Leyen stated, «EMA tells us that conditional marketing authorisation, so this is the very very first step to be able to go on the market for BioNTech and Moderna could happen as early as the second half of December, if all proceeds now without any problem.» «So at the beginning, only small numbers come and the large numbers later,» she added. Michel added, «it is our hope that in the course of next year, but we can't say with any certainty at what time next year, but sometime next year vaccines can be deployed.»
