Members of the European Parliament held their last plenary session ahead of UK's departure from the EU in Brussels this Thursday.
Many remainer MEPs expressed their disappointment, one day after the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted to accept the terms of the Brexit agreement.
«Today (...) hundreds of thousands of UK citizens are grieving their loss of EU citizenship. I pray this house... Еще finds a way to be generous to them, to us. Do not please treat us as churlishly as our Brexiteers have treated you,» said Liberal Democrat MEP Shelia Richie, who warned about the dangers of growing populism in Europe.
Brexiteer MEP Robert Roland praised the Brexit Party for standing against «the establishment» and delivering Brexit. «I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved, all our colleagues here, it's a beautiful achievement. I know there has been some crocodile tears from the other side, but don't worry. The future is fantastic for Great Britain.»
The Withdrawal Agreement was approved by the EU Parliament by 621 votes in favour, 49 against and 13 abstentions, on Wednesday evening. The UK is due to leave the European Union at 23:00 GMT on Friday.
