European Parliament President Antonio Tajani said that the United Kingdom must agree on a timeframe for a Brexit plan ahead of next month's European elections, while speaking at a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday.
«The EU Parliament doesn't want to be mocked by whoever. Either [they] decide in a serious way for an extension period required to solve problems, with clear commitments from... Еще the UK side and the EU Council side, or we need to do everything ahead of the vote» he warned.
He then added: «Voting to keep members who are not even taking office would be really ridiculous and offensive for the EU Parliament.»
Tajani also said that the EU is open to any solution, including a new referendum and revoking Article 50, but warned that the UK government should clarify its plans before taking part in the EU elections.
The EU parliament chief spoke ahead of an EU Council emergency summit on Wednesday, with the 27 heads of state deciding on UK Prime Minister Theresa May's request for another Brexit extension.
