Belgium: «Rajoy must be very afraid of the ballot box» — Puigdemont

Deposed Catalan President Carles Puigdemont told the press that “Mariano Rajoy must be very afraid of the ballot box,” in Brussels, Thursday, during Catalan election day. Puigdemont highlighted once more the unusual nature of these elections: “It is not normal to celebrate an election day with candidates in prison, candidates in exile, with fear, and with intervention in our country and our... Еще institutions.” He also spoke about the fact the Government’s delegate in Catalonia Enric Millo and Interior Ministry Technical Secretary General Juan Antonio Puigserver were the ones to share the participation updates and scrutiny, due to the application of Article Article: “Mr. Millo [Enric Millo] has no right, and is not legitimate, and nobody has authorised him to appear with the logotype of an institution for the one nobody has voted him to represent.” “Everyone should know that voting one of the [Article] 155 parties, is opening the door to continuing this regime of fear, of lack of freedom, people in jail, in exile, of cuts to our economy and rights”, he warned. Catalans are voting for 135 lawmakers in the regional parliament, which has been dominated by pro-independence parties since 2015. The elections are expected to determine the course of a secession crisis that escalated after the October 1 Catalan independence referendum. According to opinion polls, either the pro-independence ERC or the centrist, anti-independence Ciudadanos could emerge from Thursday's election as the largest party. Mandatory Credit: ACN
