Belgium: Police say they are 'fed up' with allegations of racism and brutality at Brussels rally

Police officers in Belgium held a protest in Brussels city centre on Friday to decry the media bashing and the «generalising» they claim they are facing. Some officers threw their handcuffs on the ground as a sign of protest, echoing similar demonstrations carried out in France. «No the Belgian police is not the American police. We do not beat up everyone, we do not crush people, we do not bludgeon anyone, we do not insult people. Here, just among the police in Schaerbeek (municipality of Brussels), there are 10 different nationalities. We have to stop generalizing and bashing. Police officers are doing a remarkable job and they are fed up,» explained one police inspector. Similar protests were held nationwide in other Belgian cities.
