Belgium: NATO's Russian rep. Grushko calls for 'de-escalation' in Europe

Russia's Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko stated that if NATO wanted to de-escalate the situation in Europe, «it should take steps which would allow for the restoration of a normal basis for military contacts and cooperation.» Grushko was speaking at a press conference following a Russia-NATO Council meeting in Brussels, Thursday. «It would be useful for all the countries in... Еще the Northern-Atlantic region,» noted Grushko. The diplomat said that exercises and other efforts of the NATO members «significantly worsen the security situation in Europe, create and deepen already existing border lines, [and] practically distract our attention from a constructive agenda.» «We need neither to divide efforts, nor distract resources to some non-existing threats, but to seek ways to join efforts in order to parry these threats,» underlined Grushko.
