Belgium: Nationwide raids conducted as part of football corruption probe

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Brussels announced on Thursday the nationwide conduct of a corruption investigation into Belgian football clubs and referee associations. According to Eric Van Duyse, spokesperson of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, «44 searches were conducted all across the country on October 10, 2018.» Match fixing and financial fraud are among the allegations, with five... Еще people reportedly having so far been charged. «It looks like the deals were made, amongst others, between referee BV and various members of the administrative council of Waasland-Beveren,» Van Duysen added. Federal prosecutor Wenke Roggen explained that the «judicial investigation» relates to activities of football agents and football clubs. So far, 29 people have been arrested in relation to financial fraud charges and match fixing.
