Belgium: Mogherini calls for 'maximum restraint' in Iran nuclear deal dispute

EU Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini argued that «maximum restraint and avoiding any escalation on the military side» would be «the most responsible» course of action in the Iran nuclear deal dispute, while speaking at a press conference in Brussels on Monday. Mogherini said, «Mike Pompeo heard that very clearly today from us, not only from myself, but also from the other ministers of EU... Еще member states, that we are living in a crucial delicate moment, where the most relevant attitude to take, the most responsible attitude to take is, and we believe should be, that of maximum restraint and avoiding any escalation on the military side.» She went on to say that the EU «still [invites] Iran to comply with all its nuclear commitments, adding that «we will do our part on our side to continue to fully implement the nuclear deal.» US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was slated for a trip to Russia, made a last-minute stopover in Brussels to join European diplomats to discuss a response to Tehran's threats to scrap some commitments made under the 2015 nuclear accord.
