Belgium: Merkel and Macron leave after third day of EU summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were seen leaving the EU in-person summit in Brussels after third and last day of the meeting, Monday. Earlier Merkel said that the summit could end with no results, «There is a lot of goodwill but there are many positions and so I will work for it, but it may also be that there are no results today.» The special gathering of the European Council on July 17-19 marked the first face to face meeting among the EU leaders, where talks to agree on a recovery plan due to the coronavirus were expected, after failing to reach an agreement on the EU budget for the next seven years in February.
