Belgium: Macron, Merkel arrive for new round of talks over EU budget deal

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were filmed arriving among other leaders of European Union member states for the second day of the Special European Council meeting in Brussels on Friday, to discuss the EU budget for 2021-2027. The EU leaders have been split over the EU's financial framework in the post-Brexit era, as European Commission President Ursula von... Еще der Leyen warned that she would not support the next EU budget if a quarter of the funds are not allocated to a signature European Green Deal, a package of measures aimed at making Europe climate neutral by 2050. Merkel also expressed Germany's concern over the budget deal by saying, «We are currently not satisfied because the balance within the net payers has not yet been properly negotiated.» Earlier on Thursday, European Parliament (EP) President David Sassoli rejected the budget plan presented by European Council President Charles Michel, slamming it as «unacceptable.»
