Outgoing President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said he hoped newly-elected Ursula von der Leyen had «big ears» and «good eyes» as he handed over the European Union's top job in a ceremony in Brussels on Tuesday.
«A commission president needs 'big ears' because they can't be affected by anxiety and there are a lot of reasons them to be anxious in their house,» he said, adding... Еще «I wish you 'good eyes' because to read and understand small print is also very important.»
Ursula von der Leyen, who has already begun her term as the European Commission President on Sunday, thanked Juncker for his work in the EU and for teaching her and their European colleagues new words such as 'Weltpolitikfaehigkeit', or political competence.
She also remembered a moment US President Donald Trump called Juncker a «brutal killer» during a Group of Seven meeting in Canada back in 2018.
«You have really demonstrated 'Weltpolitikfaehigkeit' during your visits to the US these years. I'm not sure how you got to be called 'brutal killer' but whatever it was it really worked,» she said.
