EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said member states supported exploring opportunities to lower tensions with Turkey.
Borrell was speaking at a news conference in Brussels on Monday, after the first in-person meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
«I will prepare options and further appropriate measures that could be taken in response to the challenges we are facing a result of Turkish actions, including in the eastern Mediterranean,» said Borrell.
The official also called on Turkey to reverse its decision on converting the Hagia Sofia museum back into mosque.
«This decision will inevitably fuel mistrust and renew division between religious communities and undermine our efforts at dialogue and cooperation,» said Borrell.
