The EU is ready to offer a «highly ambitious» trade deal with zero tariffs and zero quotas to the United Kingdom, said Michel Barnier, the head of the EU's UK Task Force, during a press conference in Brussels on Monday following Brexit.
'We are ready to offer a highly ambitious trade deal as the central pillar of this partnership. Including zero tariffs and zero quotas on all goods entering our... Еще single market of 450 million people,' said Barnier, «eventhough we know that there will be strong competition between the UK, our immediate neighbour, and the EU in the future.»
Barnier also said that EU readiness to offer a free trade deal depends on two main conditions, a level playing field on tax, state aid and environmental standards, and access to UK fishing water.
The UK officially left the EU after 47 years of membership on Friday, January 31, more than three years after the country voted to leave in the 2016 referendum.
