The European Union’s Energy Chief Maros Sefcovic warned that Russia and Ukraine need a «sense of urgency» in their talks over the next gas supply contract between Moscow and Kiev, during a press statement in Brussels on Monday.
“My message today in all our meetings bilateral and trilateral was that the time is flying. And, given the date, there is and there must be a clear sense of urgency... Еще. Therefore, I appealed to everyone around the table to be as constructive as possible,” called Sefcovic.
Sefcovic said to be “disappointed” by the Russian refusal to accept the terms presented at the meeting. “The parameters, which I presented, have been acceptable to Ukrainian partners who were ready to engage on this discussion. Unfortunately, after very lengthy discussion and mutual explanations, the Russian delegation was not prepared to do the same.”
The current ten-year contract for gas transit from Russia to Europe through Ukraine will expire on 31 December 2019.
