Belgium: EU rejects Netanyahu's call for Jerusalem capital recognition

European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini reaffirmed the EU's stance against recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Tuesday during a press conference from the EU headquarters in Brussels. Mogherini spoke at length about her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 28 other member states, who unanimously rebuffed Netanyahu's suggestion... Еще that recognising Jerusalem as the capital “makes peace possible.” Mogherini also said «I have to say that Prime Minister Netanyahu realised, I think, from the ministers themselves that there is full EU unity on this — that the only realistic solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine is based on two states, with Jerusalem as the capital of both the state of Israel and the state of Palestine.» On December 5, Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in a live televised address from Washington D.C. The decision sparked immediate outrage and fury from the Arab world. The status of the Holy City is seen as a key issue in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
