Belgium: EU Commission proposes Code of Practice on Disinformation

Two EU Commissioners presented new EU measures to tackle online misinformation and fake news at a press conference in Brussels on Thursday. Commissioner Julian King explained, «The new code of practice for platforms should make them more accountable, should bring about more transparency around adverts and sponsored content. It should crack down bots and fake accounts, it should reduce the... Еще visibility of disinformation while promoting more trustworthy content and it should help users understand why they are shown certain content by clarifying how the underlined algorithms work.» Both he and Commissioner Mariya Gabriel offered reassurement that the new measurements are not intended to censor publishing. «Nobody is intending to impose to anyone what to believe and what to read», she said. This new setting, called the Code of Practice on Disinformation, should be effective from July.
