Belgium: EU announces €6.9 bln pledge for Syrians affected by war

During the UN and EU's fourth joint conference on «Supporting the future of Syria and the region» on Tuesday, European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic announced a pledge from the European Union and other donor countries totalling €6.9 billion ($7.7 billion) aimed at helping Syrians affected by the conflict in their country. According to the commissioner, the aid package will be released in two instalments in 2020 and 2021 respectively, and will reportedly help both countries hosting refugees as well as citizens in Syria itself. «As an international community, we have today expressed solidarity with the Syrian people. Not only with words but with concrete pledges of support that will make a difference for millions of people,» Lenarcic said
