European Union leaders have agreed to delay the Article 50 process, postponing Brexit beyond March 29.
The announcement was made by Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker respectively, at a press conference in Brussels late on Thursday.
The UK will be offered a delay until May 22, if MPs approve the Withdrawal Agreement next week.
If... Еще they do not, there will be a shorter delay until April 12, allowing the UK time to indicate a way forward.
«April 12 will be the key date in terms of the UK deciding whether to hold European Parliament elections,» Tusk later clarified.
«If it has not decided to do so by then, the option of a long-extension will automatically become impossible,» he added.
Before then, «the UK government will still have a choice of a deal, a no-deal, a long extension or revoking Article 50,» Tusk pointed out.
British Prime Minister Theresa May has agreed to the proposals.
