Belgium: EC orders Amazon to pay €250 million in back taxes to Luxembourg

European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager announced that Amazon would have to pay €250 million ($294.38 million) in back taxes to Luxembourg, speaking from Brussels, Wednesday. «The commission has today adopted a decision that Amazon's tax benefits are illegal under EU-stated rules,» she said. Vestager went on to say that the «tax ruling granted by Luxembourg has reduced Amazon... Еще's tax bill in more than eight years between May 2006 and June 2014». She added that the Luxembourg tax ruling «enabled Amazon to shift the vast majority of its profits from one company to the other company without valid justification» and thereby «avoid taxation on three-quarters of the profits it made from all Amazon sales within the European Union.»
