Belgium: Bust of Leopold II removed by Ghent officials

The bust of former Belgian King Leopold II was removed from the park it was standing in, Ghent, Tuesday. The statue, which could be seen visibly vandalised with graffiti, was taken from its plinth as a small crowded cheered. According to reports, the Belgian city decided to remove the statue to abide by a request made by a decolonisation working group, that was established last year. The removal of the statue of King Leopold II comes at a time when the Republic Democratic of the Congo marks 60 years of independence from Belgium rule.
