Belgium: Allies 'support efforts to de-escalate' tensions with Iran — NATO chief

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that member states «support efforts to de-escalate» the heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, during a presser in Brussels on Thursday. Stoltenberg stated that the US is «ready to talk with Iran without pre-conditions.» He added that «all allies agree that Iran should never be able to develop nuclear weapons.» Another key topic... Еще during the presser was the situation in Afghanistan. Stoltenberg praised the co-operation between NATO and Afghan forces in denying a «safe haven for international terrorists in Afghanistan.» The NATO Secretary General touched on the topic of Russia and the INF treaty as well by reiterating that Russia is violating the treaty and has now a small «window of opportunity» to save the treaty by «coming back into compliance.» Stoltenberg also commented on NATO allies' defence spending and said that they are «delivering» to meet a target of at least 2 per cent of their GDP. He added that while the United States appreciate the progress, they «continue to push for more.»
