Azerbaijan: Incumbent president Aliyev casts vote in presidential elections

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev together with his wife Mehriban Aliyeva cast their ballots in Baku, as people voted in the presidential elections throughout the country on Wednesday. Aliyev is speculated to win the race ahead of his seven opponents, which would secure him his fourth consecutive term. He was first elected president in 2003 after his father Heydar Aliyev passed away. In 2009... Еще a two-term presidential limit was lifted in a referendum, and a 2016 referendum saw the presidential term being extended from five to seven years. The president is directly elected by an absolute majority of votes cast, with no turnout requirement.
