Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said Turkey «must leave the Greek continental shelf immediately» to de-escalate tensions between Ankara and Athens over the exploration of energy reserves in the eastern Mediterranean in Vienna, on Friday, following a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Speaking to the press Dendias said, «During our talks with Mr Pompeo and my European counterparts, I emphasised that Turkey is the only one to blame for the East Med tension escalation and that it must leave the Greek continental shelf immediately.»
«We remain open to dialogue with Turkey but of course not under the state of pressure and blackmail,» he added.
According to reports, a collision occurred between Greek and Turkish naval ships yesterday. While Greek sources report that the incident was an accident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Greece of having a «malicious» attitude in the Mediterranean.
