Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel «could undermine and even put an end to the negotiations for a two-state solution.» Lavrov made the statement following his meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on the sidelines of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE... Еще) Ministerial Council meeting in Vienna on Thursday. «We drew attention to the concerns voiced by Arab and Muslim nations, the Arab League as well as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation that this could undermine and even put an end to the negotiations for a two-state solution, when the State of Israel and the State of Palestine fully live side by side with one another in safety,» said Lavrov. Commenting on the Syrian crisis, Lavrov noted that the two diplomats «have agreed on the need to prevent actions that would question and threaten our common commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.» According to the Russian foreign minister, the two diplomats also discussed the crisis on the Korean Peninsula. He said, «We are convinced that we need to stop the vicious spiral of confrontations and provocations,» adding that «we know that North Korea primarily wants to talk with the United States to ensure its security. We are ready to support it.» Lavrov also expressed concern about Washington's «attempts to turn upside down» the Russian initiative to reinforce the OSCE mission in Donbass with a UN contingent to ensure the safety of the observers who monitor the Minsk Agreements compliance.
