Dozens of people rallied in front of the Russian embassy in Vienna on Tuesday to demand political action over the killing of Chechen exiled politician and Blogger Mamikhan Umarov in the city of Gerasdorf on Saturday.
«He [Mamikhan Umarov] was an asylum seeker like all of us coming from Chechnya,» explained exiled politician Khuseyn Iskhanov outside the Russian embassy where approximately 100 protesters were seen waving Chechen flags and signs demanding political action over the death of the 43-year-old man.
The Chechen asylum-seeker reportedly criticised Chechen regional president Ramzan Kadyrov as well as Russian and Chechen authorities on his video blog, which lead the protesters to ask for a closer investigation of Umarov's murder.
Umarov was found dead with gunshot wounds near a gas station in Gerasdorf, near Vienna, on Saturday. Since then local police apprehended two people in connection with the murder of the Chechen asylum-seeker.
Austrian authorities said they had offered Umarov protection, but he had purportedly rejected their help.
