Around 500 people protested against anti-coronavirus measures in an event organised by the ruling government party Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) at Vienna's Heldenplatz on Wednesday.
The protesters waved Austrian flags in support of FPO speakers on stage while some held signs reading: «When injustice becomes right, resistance becomes a duty,» stressing their opposition against the coronavirus... Еще measures.
«I am annoyed by the coronavirus. The masks and all hassles around it,» a protester said.
Johann Gudenus, who was also involved in the FPO Ibiza-affair, was also seen at the protest. «It is unacceptable that a chancellor and a government are ordering a new normality, which is restricting the freedom of the people. I think here are many courageous citizens, who want back their freedom,» he stated.
Vice-mayor of Vienna Dominik Nepp remarked «we want that the asylum laws are abandoned, so that economical refugees are no longer coming from Greek Islands or Turkish refugee camps or even from North Africa. Because they are bringing the coronavirus uncontrolled to Austria.»
Police officers supervised a counterprotest nearby where people chanted to criticise FPO.
«They are making a protest, united together with conspiracy theorists,» a counterprotester said. «In my opinion this is extremely problematic. In general FPO [Freedom Party of Austria] is antisemitic, racists to no end. And this is why we are going on the streets, to show the FPO [Freedom Party of Austria] that this is complete bullshit.»
