A rally consisting of thousands from the Greek community in Melbourne on Sunday protested against the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) receiving a compound name containing the term 'Macedonia', in an ongoing name dispute. The rally was organised by the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria. Protesters waved the Greek flag and listened to various speeches. «Greece... Еще is Macedonia, it belongs to us. There's nobody who can put their hands on this, this belongs to the Greeks,» said one protester named Athena. Many in Greece see the use of the name 'Macedonia' by the FYROM as a threat to the Greek state, saying it implies a territorial claim on its own eponymous region of northern Greece.
