The US Central Command released photographic stills on Thursday of crew members on board the Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge treating rescued sailors from the Kokuka Courageous tanker in the Gulf of Oman.
The statement says the «Bainbridge received a call from the Kokuka Courageous crew advising that their ship was in distress approximately 30 nautical miles from Bainbridge's... Еще location,» and that «all 21 crew members of the Kokuka Courageous had evacuated to a tug boat and were transferred to the Bainbridge.
The stills show a sailor from the Kokuka Courageous, who suffered burns on his hands, receiving treatment from the Bainbridge medical team.
Two ships owned by companies in Norway and Singapore were reportedly attacked south of the Strait of Hormuz through which almost a fifth of the world's oil exports pass through.
The incident comes amid spiralling tensions between Tehran and Washington DC, which has pointed the finger at Iran over attacks on four vessels last month.
