Thousands turned out in Buenos Aires on Wednesday to protest a court ruling which acquitted two men accused of the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl. A court in the coastal city of Mar del Plata ruled in favour of two men accused of abusing and killing Lucia Perez. The judgement said the sex was consensual and the teenager died after a drug overdose. The two men were convicted of selling... Еще drugs to a minor and were sentenced to eight years in prison. Women’s rights campaign group ‘Ni una menos’ called for protests outside courts across the country. The killing in 2016 caused public outcry and raised questions about gender-based violence in Argentina. Marta Perez, Lucia’s mother, condemned the judgement at the rally and accused the judges of ‘raping’ her daughter. Activists carried images of the teenager while others staged a die-in to highlight the problem of femicide and send a wake-up call to the authorities.
