Argentina: University unions walkout over pay dispute

University teaching unions went on a 48-hour strike after rejecting the government's pay offer. Members of the CONADU Historica union marched through Buenos Aires on Thursday evening. Argentina is currently in the midst of an economic crisis, characterised by high inflation, a volatile currency and low industrial output. Union members have seen minimal pay increases and reduced spending power... Еще as a result of government fiscal policy. In response, public sector workers are mobilising against the government, while Argentinian President Mauricio Macri battles for re-election. On Tuesday, Argentina's biggest union — the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) — ramped up the pressure by backing a 24-hour national strike on May 29.
