US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson commended Argentina's leadership for «promoting democracy» in Venezuela, following a meeting with Argentine President Mauricio Macri, in Buenos Aires on Monday. Tillerson argued that Argentina has «re-emerged as a strong advocate for democracy and the rule of law, and we have in particular welcomed Argentina's leadership to promote democracy, including, in... Еще particular, in Venezuela.» He went on to say «we must continue to work to fulfill the requirements of the Inter-American Democratic Charter. We simply cannot allow to stand idly by to see the total destruction of democracy in Venezuela. The Venezuelan people deserve better, and President Macri has been clear in that regard as well.» Last week, Tillerson stressed that Washington was not advocating for «regime change» in Venezuela, however, raising a prospect of an internal military ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Tillerson arrived in Argentina on February 3 after visiting Mexico as part of his Latin American tour. Following his visit to Argentina, the US Secretary of State is due to travel to Peru.
