Argentina: Thousands rally against police brutalityin Buenos Aires

Thousands of demonstrators descended on Buenos Aires, on Monday, to denounce police brutality and to pressure on the government into releasing the whereabouts of missing detainee Santiago Maldonado. Amongst the protesters were relatives and friends of victims of police brutality, who marched alongside human rights activists and members of social and political organisations from the Palace of the... Еще Argentine National Congress to Plaza de Mayo. “We are not speaking of petty small things, it is not one-off thing, it is not one single policeman being absolved, it is something broader about the entire institution,” said activist Matias Levonian, describing police violence in Argentina as “institutional.” Maldonado has been reported missing since going into police custody in Chubut last week, with many of the protesters blaming his disappearance on the government and the Argentine Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich in particular. The march is the third national march against institutional violence held countrywide this month.
