Thousands of people took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Wednesday to demand justice for the late Santiago Maldonado, a 28-year-old activist whose body was discovered last year in the Mapuche community of Chubut. The protest was organised one year on from the activist's death, under the banner «Santiago is solidarity». Protesters assembled on Plaza de Mayo, before marching through the capital... Еще carrying banners and artwork depicting the slain man. Santiago Maldonado’s brother, Sergio, addressed the crowd in a closing ceremony, demanding the Argentinian government resolve the case. «We must repudiate with all our strength that this government empowers the armed forces to participate in matters of internal security,» he concluded. Santiago Maldonado went missing on August 1 after being arrested during a demonstration supporting Argentina's Indigenous Mapuche community. After missing for 30 days, his body was found in Chibut River in southern Argentina on October 18.
