Argentina: Thousands demand extension of law safeguarding indigenous territorial rights

Thousands of representatives of indigenous communities coming from all over Argentina gathered in Buenos Aires to mark the Day of Indigenous Resistance, Thursday, demanding the approval of the extension of a law preventing native communities from losing their lands and restraining legal evictions from them. Еще music and performing traditional dances, as well as holding speeches in favour of the Indigenous Territorial Emergency Law, which is due to expire in November. «We need this very urgent law because it will stop the evictions of communities, it will stop the violence against our peoples,» said Oculina Samora, an indigenous representative. Later at night a massive crowd took to the streets of the city, where they marched to the sound of native music towards Republic Square. During the rally, demonstrators called for the return of missing political activist Santiago Maldonado and the resignation of the Argentine Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich.
