Crowds of protesters marched through Buenos Aires, on Tuesday, to demand the immediate release of indigenous activist Milagro Sala, marking two years since her detention.
Members of the Tupac Amaru Association, the Association of State Workers (ATE) and other unions as well as human rights organisations joined the march.
Sala is being held under house arrest after an international and... Еще national outcry calling for her release, involving the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), human rights groups and activists.
Her lawyer Elizabeth Gomez Alcorta stressed, «In August 2016, five international experts from the world ruled that her detention was arbitrary and that the Argentine State should immediately release her.»
Sala is a leader of the Tupac Amaru Association, part of the ATE in Jujuy, and a leading figure in the Movimiento Piquetero of Argentina. She was arrested on embezzlement charges on January 16, 2016, after taking part in a protest against reforms to social funding introduced by Jujuy's local government. Sala has denied the allegations, stating that her detention is politically motivated.
